Shiamak Dance – Hip Hop

Grade Level – Pre – K  and K – 1

Description
Hip Hop is a cool, urban dance style, blending Hip Hop and Street Funk with signature Shiamak moves. Each class consists of warming up exercises, combinations and choreography. Students are encouraged to add their own variations to the choreography and bring their own creative expression to the moves. Young, energetic, urban, cool, HIP HOP!

Shiamak Dance – Theatre Jazz

Grade Level – 2 to 3
Class size – 10

Description

For almost as long as there has been theater, there has been dance within the theater.

Broadway as we know it today began in the 1900’s, where it was just beginning to make an impact in New York City culture. Theater Jazz dance is showcased as part of a story plot.

It involves usage of props, – canes, top hats, and gloves with a lot of influence of Jazz Dance – Singing – Acting and Performing all Integrated as one performing arts experience.

Shiamak Dance – Jazz/Street Funk

Description

Jazz Funk is a form of dance that developed along with jazz music. Jazz Funk has a lot of bold dramatic linear movements which involve body isolation’s and contractions. Moves in jazz dance include jazz hands, kicks, leaps, sideways shuffling, roll shoulders etc. Improvisation is an important element in jazz-funk  dance. Each class consists of warming up exercises, combinations and choreography.

Shiamak Dance – Rock n Roll

Grade Level –  K to 1

Class size – 12

Description

Rock n Roll is a very athletic, competitive form of dance that originated from Lindy hop. Unlike Lindy hop, however, it is a choreographed dance designed for performance.

It is danced by both couples and groups. This is normally a very fast and physically demanding dance. Kicks and acrobatic elements such as lifts, throws, jumps and flips, are all characteristic of Rock and Roll dancing.

The movie Grease is a very famous example of the rock n roll era and style.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Shiamak Dance – Contemporary

Grade Level
Students who are currently in grade 6 to 12

Class size – 15

Description
Contemporary dance is a creative amalgamation of contemporary and modern dance movement, with elements of ballet and focus of technique involving use of space, timing and rhythm. The style requires strength and flexibility, and brings out the emotion of the music through dance movement. Each choreographer has his own personal take on this style and this translates into the choreography on stage.

Batch 1 – Students who are currently in grade EC4 and K
Batch 2 – Students who are currently in grade 1 to 5
Batch 3 – Students who are currently in grade 6 to 12

Batch 1 – Students who are currently in grade 1 to 5
Batch 2 – Students who are currently in grade 6 to 12

Class size – 15

Description
Afro-Jazz, or African Jazz, as the name implies, fuses jazz with traditional African dance movements. An extremely energetic dance, the style is rooted in traditional African dance and music, but incorporates jazz techniques such as turns, jumps, leaps and partnered moves. An afro-jazz class is usually conducted to live drums and percussion instruments.
